Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about creating and handling secure passwords with this generator.
Are generated passwords stored or sent anywhere?
No. Passwords are generated locally in your browser and are not stored or sent to a server by Password Generator. You can learn more in our Privacy Policy.
How are the passwords generated?
The generator uses your browser’s built-in cryptographic random number generator to select characters from the options you choose.
How long should my password be?
Use at least 16 characters when a service allows it. Length matters, and a longer unique password is generally harder to guess or crack.
Which character options should I choose?
Enable letters, numbers, and symbols for the widest character set. If a website restricts certain characters, adjust the options to match its requirements and compensate with more length.
What does the strength indicator mean?
It is a quick estimate based on password length and the character types selected. It is useful guidance, but it cannot guarantee that a password will never be compromised.
Should I reuse a generated password?
No. Use a different password for every account. That way, a breach of one service does not expose your other accounts.
Where should I save my passwords?
Store them in a reputable password manager rather than in plain text, screenshots, email, or unsecured notes. A password manager also makes unique passwords much easier to use.
Can the website recover a password I generated?
No. Because generated passwords are not stored, the website cannot retrieve one after you leave or generate another. Copy it to a safe place before moving on.
